Moped car wheel cylinder

The wheel cylinder is the hydraulic part in the drum brake system that pushes the brake shoes outwards when the brake is applied. Via hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder, the pistons in the wheel cylinder are driven outwards, pressing the brake shoes against the inside of the brake drum. A well-working wheel cylinder is important for safe and even braking performance. Typical symptoms of a defective wheel cylinder are brake fluid leakage visible at the drum brake or on the inside of the wheel hub, a soft or spongy brake pedal because the cylinder cannot build up sufficient pressure, uneven braking where the moped car pulls to one side, a brake that does not release fully causing the wheel to drag or overheat, and a dropping brake fluid level without visible leaks elsewhere. Preferably replace both wheel cylinders at the same time for the left and right wheel. When replacing, also check the brake shoes and the brake drum for wear. Always bleed the brake system after replacement.

The wheel cylinder range consists of two versions. The most requested is a Bonq cylinder suitable for almost all brands and models where left and right are identical. In addition there are wheel cylinders specifically for the newer Aixam models where left and right differ. Always check the correct version based on your brand, model and fitting side.
