The CV boot protects the CV joint from dirt, water and other external contamination. As long as the boot is intact, the CV joint remains lubricated and the drive shaft functions correctly. A torn or damaged boot therefore poses a direct risk to the CV joint: without protection, dirt and moisture enter the joint, it loses its lubrication and wears rapidly. Timely replacement of a damaged boot is therefore one of the most cost-effective maintenance measures for the drivetrain of your moped car.

A damaged CV boot can be recognised by visible cracks, a film of grease around the boot or a build-up of dirt on the CV joint. If no ticking or knocking sounds are yet audible in corners, the CV joint is probably still in good condition and replacing the boot alone is sufficient.
