Steering Knuckle

Moped car steering knuckle

The steering knuckle is the central pivot point of the front wheel of your moped car and forms the connection between the suspension, the wheel hub and the brake caliper. It carries both the wheel bearing and the brake caliper, and is connected to the supporting arm via the ball joint and to the steering house via the steering ball joint. An intact steering knuckle is essential for correct wheel geometry, reliable braking performance and safe steering. Minicar-Parts supplies steering knuckles for all well-known brands, including Aixam, Microcar, Ligier, Chatenet, JDM, Bellier, Grecav and Casalini.

Typical causes of damage to a steering knuckle are an impact or collision against a kerb, speed bump or other vehicle, prolonged play in the wheel bearing, ball joint or other suspension parts causing additional load on the steering knuckle, corrosion and rust formation in older vehicles or vehicles frequently exposed to moisture and road salt, excessive mechanical load from heavy use or poor roads, incorrect installation or repair, and in rare cases metal fatigue from continuous alternating loads. Symptoms of a damaged steering knuckle include abnormal wheel alignment that cannot be correctly adjusted, vibrations or unstable driving behaviour, uneven tyre wear, play in the suspension despite replacement of other parts, visible deformation, cracks or severe corrosion, and unusual sounds from the suspension during driving or steering.

A damaged steering knuckle is a safety-critical problem. As the part connects the wheel hub, brake components and suspension parts, a steering knuckle with cracks, severe corrosion or deformation must always be replaced and not repaired. After replacement, a wheel alignment check is strongly recommended. Steering knuckles are sold individually and are different for left and right. They are brand- and model-specific. The range includes steering knuckles from Bonq as a reliable alternative and original parts from the relevant moped car brand. When replacing, also check the condition of the ball joints, the wheel bearings and the brake caliper, as these parts are mounted directly on the steering knuckle. For further suspension parts, please refer to supporting arms and rubber supporting arms. For related chassis parts, please refer to shock absorbers and steering parts.
