Moped car steering house

The steering house is the central mechanism of the steering system and converts the rotation of the steering wheel into a sideways movement of the steering rods. Via the steering rods and steering ball joints the wheels are controlled. A well-working steering house is important for accurate, stable and safe steering of your moped car. A defective steering house can have two types of causes. Internal wear occurs through wear of the rack and pinion teeth, wear of sliding bushes or bearings, increasing play through prolonged use, insufficient lubrication or aged grease, and dirt or moisture entering through a damaged steering house cover. External damage occurs through a collision against a kerb, forces via the wheels after an accident, deformation of steering rods that place extra load on the steering house, or corrosion from moisture and road salt.

Typical symptoms of a defective steering house are steering play where the steering wheel has to be turned further before the wheels respond, knocking, ticking or rattling sounds when steering or driving over uneven surfaces, heavy or stiff steering, inaccurate steering behaviour or a swaying feeling, vibrations in the steering wheel, the moped car pulling to one side despite correct tyre pressure, grease leakage or damaged steering house covers that may indicate internal wear, and in serious cases a jerky or blocking steering movement.
